Day 15 - 'Art Nouveau Leaf' of February Art, Craft & Design Challenge 2024 '.Thinking of ideas for my February drawing challenge one was 'Art Nouveau' which was an art movement late 19th century, you have likely seen this type art style on posters, packaging, wall paper and even very old books.This art movement has some amazing art pieces and is usually based on nature.Today has been one of those challenging days for my drawing challenge just because I have had such a busy day, much busier than normal and the last task or so to do is my drawing challenge and feeling a bit weary I decided to create an ink art piece and then I remembered Art Nouveau.So busy today in fact I have not even ran the fireplace today.The Art Nouveau Leaf is an iconic design from this art movement and a great way for myself to warm up to try and create more of this art style. Day 14 - 'Create a Valentine' of February Art, Craft & Design Challenge 2024 '.A nice and simple art piece today as it is St Valentines Day and nobody likes a stressy Bessy on such a day.A nice chilled out and happy mood because a high worked and stressed partner is a bad romantic Valentines date, even if I knew what that is these days.Whether your in relationship or not on this day, best to smile and remember there is only Easter, Birthday, Christmas and New Year's eve when being single is a bit rough, the rest of the time isn't so bad.What is more romantic? "‘Popcorn brain’ could be behind our dwindling attention spans" - Popcorn brain is a psychology term to describe when we are on a digital device that our attention is being pulled left, right and centre frequently and constantly which is very similar to corn kernels in a very hot pan with a touch of oil and the moment the corn kernels start popping is how our attentions spans are reacting on the device causing distractions left, right and centre."And worryingly, research shows average attention spans are declining – with the time a person can focus on one thing dropping from around 2½ minutes to around 47 seconds over the last 20 years (in line with social media use climbing)."I did create an artwork yesterday and colouring it in was testing my patience level fairly hard and this made it un-enjoyable and a tougher task.The pencil line work still being hard did not test my patience in this way.This popcorn brain is not a static issue and the more we spend on online or smart devices the more we are feeding the attention destroying beast so to speak."So as we spend more time online, popcorn brain continues to grow. But what exactly is it about social media that is shattering our attention spans?"From my own personal experience of being on social media which I am only on LinkedIn and amazingly I am not in the Zuckerberg universe, by choice at least. My personal experience is when I haven't been on I feel a certain way and once I sit down and start surfing I just somehow feel better than I did with the prolong period of no interactivity either online but certainly social media."As we get a small hit of dopamine from checking these apps, we tend to go back for more – and it’s difficult to break the cycle."From this I certainly consume social media like cigarettes, and 20 years or more my attention span was far better than these days and I didn't have so many tasks and things on the go at once either being done or never being done so this "Popcorn Brain" is a good description, and they say my tobacco smoking is bad for my health."‘In terms of solutions, setting designated tech-free times, consciously pausing to focus on a single task, and periodically deleting apps may help regain control,’ he adds."I sort of do this and the push is far harder later in the day that draws me back to online/smart device use.I think having experienced the world pre web and smart technology and post web and smart technology I can really see the difference in my attention span vs younger people who have grown up more with it.

Day 11 - 'Draw Mickey Mouse the Disney way' of February Art, Craft & Design Challenge 2024 '.On Day 7 I tried drawing Micky Mouse and the results being ok ish, but not fully happy with it.Richard Jackson spoke on the method used by the Disney animators using more full circles. Searching on YouTube I came across the actual 'Disney Parks' YouTube channel which shows you how to really draw Mickey Mouse properly and here is my 2nd attempt at drawing Mickey Mouse.Far happier with the results.Stephen the Disney Art of Animation artist is a talented artist and in the video the faintest lines and hen suddenly Stephen would of decided fully the line and then shades that line in dark blue with such clarity and precision.Being happier with my 2nd attempt I still have to practise this a few more times as Stephen recommended a reference dot for Mickey Mouse's eyes and this is the only reference dot provided and Mickey Mouse and all other characters will have many of these reference dots to help animators of all levels know where what goes where.Back to the drawing board for me and another day this drawing challenge drawing Mickey Mouse or other characters.I also think my blue pencil is not dark blue enough here."How-To Draw Mickey Mouse - Contemporary" Disney Parks YouTube Channel.https://lnkd.in/erQENqTf"February Art, Craft & Design Challenge 2024."https://lnkd.in/eMgN3RiH"February Art, Craft & Design Challenge 2023."https://lnkd.in/eKFnDTMX"Full 28 Day February Drawing Challenge 2022 - Sally Hunt #febdrawingchallenge2022"https://lnkd.in/e_aE529r

Day 10 - 'Create an Abstract Painting' of February Art, Craft & Design Challenge 2024 '.In my drawing challenge last year I created a black and white Abstract painting and liking this one a lot I have returned this year to create a different one using only black and white acrylic paints.Already I am on and just completed Day 10 of my drawing challenge 2024.How has this year been so far?Like I have said it is already Day 10 so the time is flying past fairly quickly and only had 3 days of finding it very difficult to be inspired enough. Day 9 - 'Draw a funny comic picture for a newspaper on a news topic' of February Art, Craft & Design Challenge 2024 '.My funny comic drawing is about Football's (soccer's) new trail of the Blue Card which nobody really understands and this is great for football because it gets all chins waggling away about football and this is the new replacement for the long time confusing rule of off-side, whatever that is?!This new Blue Card rule could give referee's the opportunity to sway the result of games being played, right Blue Card this top player which will be giving the other team 10 minutes to push hard to score a goal. I do not like or watch football but this is not a good idea at all in my opinion.
